#birdoftheday New Zealand's Endangered Blue Duck (Whio)in its natural #habitat, a rushing stream. Whio is the Maori name and is pronounced with an initial "f" sound. I looked for this bird all over NZ, before coming upon this family (2 adults and two ducklings)

Lizard sex is what this is. The male, who's green right now (they can easily and quickly change), is showing his red-throat pouch, which he uses to intimidate rivals

Wind pollination is a risky business but where I live most trees have to rely on it. These Box Elder (Acer negundo, a maple) anthers are almost ready to pop and start metaphorically tossing handfuls of pollen into the wind, trusting that somehow they will find the female flowers on a different tree

A Song Sparrow giving it all he's got to tell his neighbors that this territory is occupied, a sort of musical No Trespassing sign. Imagine if a human's most brazen defense was to sing a beautiful melody
