The thing that I always think about is how poor some of these localizations were, to the extent that it was more like reading a book, imagining your own versions of the characters, than it was like watching a movie. If they all had CGI movies and recorded dialogue, would I like it nearly as much?

Exactly. The pixel remaster is good, but FF three, four and five all got 3D remakes on DS. I honestly think the number of characters they'd need to script and render in 3D without pissing people off is an intimidating prospect.

I don't love that prices are going up but it's stunning that carts were routinely $60-$70 in the nineties and then games that cost FAR more to produce in terms of team size and art assets cost $40-$60 for decades after.
