Itd be like on another universe, street fighter was a beat em up like fighting game focused on the party aspect of beating up each other but the standard fighting games rules were used for comp and the fighting game as agenre didnt take off until the 2010s.

Platfighters often take the competitive aspect first since its whats is more likely to stay dedicated compared to the casual audience. Now sure theres stuff like good single player content that is often lacking but overall with platfighters with not a lot of budget, comp scene is often first.

There wasnt really much of those in the platfighter genre and people talk about how every platfighter is trying to copy of melee and while its a fair argument theres also in how smash is a crossover game and how its not competitive first.
