Agreed. Annoyingly you don't even meet some of the characters because they got cut from the final game. The first game had choices that could run into the second, but it was really only referenced at a couple of points. Self contained is so much easier

2 really did have a good story, but the branching aspect and choices was an attempt to get people to replay it, I think. I never did, once was enough! 3 just handled so much better it's the only one I've replayed!
