Anyway we are back home now and this guy got 3x snacks and a lot of pets. 0.01sec after this pic was snapped, he leapt onto the sofa behind me to bat at my head. All is right with the world

This park is very big and we walked all the way to the far end without thinking about how we're going to have to walk back to our car 💀 It's fine, this is fine

Today's ice cream was rose and vanilla mix... I dunno if I liked it or not lol, it took some getting used to since at first it was like eating very sweet soap 💀 Also now my burps smell like roses lol

The Indonesian gardens were also full of extremely good guys
December 13, 2025 at 11:41 AM
Also found a bunch of ducks, a very regal crow, and a Chinese garden with koi who think we are here to feed them

Next went to Hamanako Garden Park and found a very good guy

Had a ridiculously good unajuu (eel box meal) as is customary when you go to Hamamatsu

I am always saying XYZ is the best thing I've ever eaten but. this was for real the best thing I've ever eaten

Gojiin haul:

1. Standard stamp for Kanzanji
2. Stamp for Me no Ana Taishi (good health for eyesight)
3. Kirie (laser cut paper art) of the tengu/fox of Kansanji

Talking to the kendama niichan who said he is gonna appear with Miyama Hiroshi at Kōhaku 👀 He doesn't know what number he's gonna be yet so we just gotta keep an eye out for him lmao

Anyway good bye Kanzanji/Tateyama, it's been fun

Hiked all the way back to the temple and found there's a little craft fair event thing going on

There are lots of kids so I don't wanna be weird and take pictures, but there is a stand full of kendama and yoyos that you can try out, and a very friendly niichan teaching folks how to play

Hiked down a different cliff face to find the Tosakai Iwa (Cockscomb Rock). This lake water is so unsettling. Why is it so quiet. What the hell. As someone who grew up near the sea, this will never not be disturbing

Also saw this yellow... flower? Fruit? Alien life form?

The way these rocks break look very cool. A friend taught me this is radiolarite, an ooze of radiolarian skeletons and red clay on the abyssal sea floor that was later scraped off the subducting oceanic crust. Looking at all these rocks is weirdly powerful and terrifying

Went to the lake coast and found all these red rocks that sound like ceramic when you walk over them. This combined with the gentle lake water lapping and scuttling the pebbles makes for a really interesting soundscape

Made the climb up to see the Kannon
December 13, 2025 at 11:28 AM
Climbing up Tateyama to visit Kanzanji
December 13, 2025 at 11:27 AM
Just got back home but I shall write my posts as if I am livetweeting them ahaha

Went to Lake Hamana in the morning. Lakes are so scary man. Why is there so much water but no waves. Unnatural

Good morning from Hamamatsu

Got some stamps from Hamamatsu Castle 👀

First is the regular 御城印 gojōin (castle stamp)

Second is a special event stamp where you need to collect three other stamps from castles around Shizuoka and Aichi. We're not gonna do that lol

And last are just regular stamps from around the castle

Okay so Hamamatsu's gyoza's special point is that the filling is mostly cabbage and veggies instead of meat. The bean sprouts are supposed to soak up the oil to make it even lighter. It's quite sweet and refreshing, which are not really words I normally associate with gyoza. Good stuff 👍

Goal for the rest of today is find the hotel, drop off our stuff, then look for a Hamamatsu gyoza place. idk what makes Hamamatsu gyoza special other than that they are arranged in a circle on the plate with a pile of moyashi bean sprouts in the center. ngl seems like a cheat but whatever lol

Hamamatsu is a cool little place. Lots of little shops branching off with cafes and galleries, and buildings like the Kagiya that are like compact shotengai. Easy to walk around thanks to wide sidewalks, relatively flat so easy to pick out a landmark and go. Wish we had another day here

Found an extremely good little indie bookshop inside of this extremely good building

It is very cold and my ears and nose were starting to freeze up so of course we did the smart thing of buying ice cream and walking around town with them

(It was honey and caramel with little chocolate antlers and yes it was worth it)

Found a little garden with no people. We couldn't drive to the mountains to see the autumn leaves this year so this makes up for it
