The Government promised to end Section 21 evictions 'immediately' over a year ago.

But renters are still waiting.

Ask housing minister Matthew Pennycook to set the date for the ban to come into force ASAP ⬇️✉️

Homes are the heart of family life - but an insecure rental sector is part of why young couples are putting off having children.

@darlingtom.bsky.social tried to appeal to delegates at #CPC25 about why strengthening renters' rights is pro-family.

🚨Renters are still waiting for security in their homes
The Government promised to ban Section 21 "no-fault" evictions over a year ago, yet renters are still left in limbo, not knowing when they’ll finally have the security they deserve

Thank you to @matthewpennycookmp.bsky.social for meeting with us today.

Along with @generationrent.bsky.social, we discussed the end of Section 21 evictions and the pathway to securing decent standards for rented homes. 🏡

Our Deputy CEO @danwilsoncraw.bsky.social set out the case for limits on rent hikes at @rentersreformco.bsky.social's Labour Conference event.

They would:

➡️ Reduce homelessness
➡️ Boost local economies
➡️ Allow renters to save
➡️ Incentivise renters to apply for energy efficiency improvements

It's time to reset the balance of rights and responsibilities between landlords and renters, and ensure every renter has a safe and secure home.

Join us if you agree.

Congratulations to @matthewpennycookmp.bsky.social who is staying on as Minister for Housing and Planning, after strong work developing the Renters' Rights Bill.

We look forward to continuing working with you on reforming private renting so all renters can have secure, decent and affordable homes.

Welcome to new Housing Secretary Steve Reed, who has taken on the role at a crucial time for renters.

We look forward to working with you as the Renters' Rights Bill (in the Commons today) nears passage. Renters need an end to unfair evictions and real security in their homes.

RRC Director @darlingtom.bsky.social on LBC News this morning explained why soaring rents are "a genuine social crisis" - driving up homelessness, poverty and costs across society.

The Renters' Rights Bill won't address this. The government must take action to make renting more affordable.

Millions of renters are in fuel poverty and that’s why we back the @rentersreformco.bsky.social

Peers have weakened the Renters’ Rights Bill—just when renters need secure, warm homes and lower bills.

Shocking development: renting is still unaffordable.

As @darlingtom.bsky.social says here, "the biggest issue facing renters – the cost of their rent – isn’t going away any time soon."

The govt should set up a national commission focused solely on this issue.

Great work from coalition members Safer Renting and @marksoutoftenancy.bsky.social in this powerful documentary on illegal HMOs.

Councils must be properly resourced to tackle this scourge - and ensure the Renters' Rights Bill has a real impact.

Forced out by a £400 rent rise after living with damp and mould - stories like Jason's are far too common.

As the RRC's @darlingtom.bsky.social says here, we need a cap on rent increases to prevent rent hike evictions like this. The government's rent tribunal won't get the job done.

Important research here from @neweconomics.bsky.social 👇

Passing the Renters' Rights Bill later this year will just be the first step.

For the bill to actually work - to protect renters and drive up standards - will require properly funded enforcement.

Last week Zoopla stats showed average monthly rents have grown by a whopping £200 per month in just 3 years.

Out of control rents are pushing people out of their homes and communities - the government must put the brakes on.

The RRC's Paul Shanks spoke to @bbc5live.bsky.social last week.
rentersreformco.bsky.social
Asked for a guarantor even though you could afford the rent?

Excessive guarantor requests can discriminate against poorer renters - when the Renters' Rights Bill returns to parliament it should be amended to restrict them.

Our Press Officer Paul Shanks explained on @bbc5live.bsky.social last week👇

Instead of listening to scaremongering against rent controls, the government should look at what works - different types of rent regulation are already a success across Europe, providing more security and better value for money for renters.

If the price of everyday items had grown as fast as rents since 1988, a supermarket chicken would now set you back £53.76.

The bill won't address this affordability crisis - we need further action.

RRC campaigner @rosiedutch.bsky.social explained on LBC News earlier this week.
