I joined Hennepin County Commissioner Angela Conley for a tour of Hennepin Healthcare’s Center for Addiction Medicine.

I was proud to secure $4.6 million in federal funding for Hennepin Healthcare. They're working everyday to ensure all Minnesotans get the quality the care they need.

Furloughed workers didn’t cause this shutdown. They shouldn’t lose a dime because of it.

Republicans shut down the government and working people are paying the price.

There’s no one more anti-worker than Donald Trump.

Scoop: White House memo says furloughed federal workers aren't entitled to backpay
A move to deny backpay to up to 750,000 furloughed workers would dramatically escalate Trump's pressure on Democrats to end the shutdown.

If you ever wondered what Republican “governance” looks like, this is it.

A government shutdown.
Federal workers who don’t get paid.
A President who golfs during a shutdown.
National guards and ICE deployed to attack and arrest Americans.
Millions of Americans losing their healthcare.

Care Providers of MN is an incredible nonprofit working to help post-acute & long-term care providers serve our community.

I visited one of their facilities, Providence Place, to hear from providers about the devastating impacts the Big, Ugly Bill will have on patients and staff.

I gathered Latine leaders from across the Fifth District to recognize and celebrate the incredible work they do everyday to create a better, stronger Minnesota for our future generations. 💪🏽

From the local to federal level, we’re fighting to get Minnesotans the support they need. I joined Hennepin County Commissioner Angela Conley for a tour of Hennepin Healthcare’s Center for Addiction Medicine.

My team and I visited Providence Place, a care facility represented by Care Providers of Minnesota, to hear from providers about the devastating impacts the Big, Ugly Bill will have on patients and staff.

School lunch shaming shouldn’t exist. I introduced a bill with @smith.senate.gov to put an end to school lunch shaming and prohibit the punishment of children who are unable to pay school meal fees. I also wrote an op-ed in the StarTribune on this legislation.

I hosted my October Town Hall in Minneapolis to share directly with Minnesotans what the GOP shutdown will mean for them.

This week, instead of voting to protect healthcare for millions, Republicans shut the government down. Democrats are holding the line - we simply cannot let Americans lose their health care. Here’s how I’ve been fighting for #MN05 (Sept 29-Oct 3):

These strikes are being done without due process and without Congressional authorization.

This latest strike demonstrates how urgent it is that Congress pass my War Powers Resolution and reassert its constitutional role.

The Trump administration has now reported killing a total of 21 people in strikes on suspected drug vessels off the coast of Venezuela, including 4 on Friday.

Questions remain about the legal justification and evidence underpinning the attacks.
U.S. kills 4 alleged drug smugglers near Venezuela, Hegseth says
The U.S. strike near Venezuela is the latest in the Trump administration’s nebulous campaign targeting Latin American drug cartels.

Across the country, kids are denied hot lunches or even chased by debt collectors because they can't pay for school meals.

I’m reintroducing the No Shame at School Act with Senator Tina Smith to ensure no child is punished for school meal debt.

My op-ed: www.startribune.com/mn-free-scho...
Ilhan Omar: Minnesota doesn’t lunch-shame kids. That should be the national model.
"Imagine being a hungry child at school, only to have your hot lunch tray taken away and replaced with a cold sandwich in front of your classmates," U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar writes.

As Ranking Member on the Workforce Protections Subcommittee in the House, I'll keep fighting to defend labor protections at the federal level.

None of this should be happening. Democrats are ready to open the government open and lower health care costs. If you’re in Minnesota’s 5th district and impacted by the shutdown, my office is here for you. Please reach out: omar.house.gov

USDA food and safety inspectors will keep working but will be unpaid. The FDA will focus on the most urgent issues and put the regular food safety work on hold.

More than one million people serving in the U.S. military are now working without pay during this shutdown. Commissaries overseas will stay open, but they and other services here in the U.S. are either closing or running on a limited basis.
repilhan.bsky.social
SNAP (food stamps) and WIC programs could see disruptions. States may cover benefits temporarily, but if the shutdown drags on, families relying on these programs risk delays or reduced access to food.

Veterans will still get their benefits checks, and medical appointments at VA health centers will continue as usual. The GI Bill hotline is closed, regional benefits offices won’t be open, and career counseling and transition programs are paused.

The Department of Education will keep sending out student aid through Pell Grants and Federal Direct Student Loans. But even with the shutdown, borrowers are still expected to make their loan payments on time.
repilhan.bsky.social
Air traffic controllers and TSA agents are deemed essential, so they’ll still be working but without pay. The FAA says about a quarter of its workforce will be furloughed.
repilhan.bsky.social
National Parks will stay open during a shutdown but 64% of National Park Service staff will be furloughed. That means little to no maintenance, no visitor services, and very limited staff for emergencies. If safety or resource damage becomes a problem, parks can be forced to close altogether.
repilhan.bsky.social
Medicaid and Medicare will continue, but new applications and renewals will be delayed. Department of Health and Human Services staff responding to public health or natural emergencies also remain on the job
repilhan.bsky.social
Social Security benefits are mandatory and will continue regardless of a shutdown, so recipients can expect to continue receiving their payments. But the Social Security Administration will see furloughed staff, which means new applications and other requests will take longer than usual.
