Weirdly, the article fails to note the high SMB failure rates during the pandemic, or that desire for remote work skyrocketed. IMO that's causation, not just correlation 🤔

Probably they don’t know their audience well enough. A good UX study could help with that and you don’t actually need much. It is that people do not do them that often lately.
