We’re at @bwiairport.bsky.social, where TSA officers & air traffic controllers are working without pay during the shutdown. Let's make it clear:

1️⃣ Federal workers are not political pawns
2️⃣ Airports are being negatively impacted
3️⃣ Compromise requires a seat at the table

Week two of the Republican shutdown.

Democrats have a plan to restore healthcare funding & reopen the government, but House GOP won’t show up because Speaker Johnson canceled votes.

Maybe it's because when the House returns, we’ll have the votes to release the Epstein files. 🤷‍♂️

As we work toward that future, may the memory of those lost that tragic day, and all of those lost since, forever be a blessing.

That's why I welcome the proposed American-led peace deal as a hopeful path forward—one that brings the hostages home, expands humanitarian aid, delegitimizes Hamas, and lays the groundwork for a lasting and just peace.

That day also began a devastating war, causing immense suffering in Gaza. As we reflect on this painful anniversary, we must remember that Israel’s long-term security depends not just on strength, but on democracy, human rights, and the rule of law—values that form the foundation of our alliance.

Today marks two years since the darkest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. The brutal murder of 1,200 people remains a deep and lasting pain for Jewish communities everywhere, including MD-02. We mourn the lives lost and pray for the return of 48 hostages, including two Americans.

Members of Congress should be treated exactly the same as we’re asking employees of this government to be treated.

I'm withholding my congressional pay for the duration of the federal government shutdown, and I call on my colleagues in both the House and Senate to do the same.

Speaker Johnson has:

❌ Shut down your government
❌ Canceled all legislative business
❌ Refused to swear in Rep.-Elect Grijalva

Why? Because she’s the final vote needed to force the release of the Epstein files.

My office is OPEN and working for you during the Republican Shutdown.

Shutdowns are one of Trump’s greatest talents! 🏆

Failed businesses, bankrupt casinos, fraudulent universities… and now 3 government shutdowns.

Wishing all who observe in #MD02 and beyond a meaningful and blessed Yom Kippur. G’mar Chatimah Tovah!

The Republican Shutdown has begun because GOP leaders refuse to negotiate in good faith, leaving hundreds of thousands of federal workers in MD and across the country caught in the middle. They’re not pawns—they’re our neighbors, public servants, and families with bills to pay.

What does a government shutdown mean for you?

As we work to reopen the government, my shutdown resource guide can help federal employees and families navigate the impacts: olszewski.house.gov/shutdown

Trump and House GOP shut down the government.

Yesterday, every Democrat showed up to keep the government open. The Republicans side of the House chamber was empty.
repjohnnyo.bsky.social
Speaker Johnson, it's past time to swear in Rep-Elect Grijalva.

During Trump’s 2018 government shutdown, 420,000 federal workers were forced to work without pay.

I cosponsored @alsobrooks.senate.gov & @elfreth.house.gov’s Help FEDS Act to ensure that during a shutdown, these workers can apply for unemployment insurance to help stay afloat.

I’m back in DC fighting to keep the government open. Today, Democrats tried to introduce an alternative budget, but House Republicans blocked it.

I’ll keep working for a bipartisan deal that protects Americans and funds the government responsibly.

Trump has spent months attacking federal workers who provide critical services. Now he’s threatening mass layoffs if the government shuts down.

I introduced the SAFE Act to protect federal workers because they are not political pawns.

I’m in DC ready to vote for a bipartisan budget that keeps the government open, protects health care, and funds commitments like the Key Bridge.

But the GOP plan on the table would gut these basic priorities. Republicans must work in good faith to deliver a responsible budget.

Republicans are playing politics with your health care.

If they don’t act now, vital tax credits expire Oct 1—premiums will skyrocket and patients with cancer or chronic illness will pay the price.

Democrats stand united in the fight to protect your care.

Trump & DOGE have already terminated over 15K federal workers in Maryland—the most of any state. We can’t afford to lose more or put livelihoods at risk.

I joined @cbsnewsbaltimore.bsky.social to discuss the SAFE Act, which I introduced to protect federal workers from mass firings during a shutdown.

Another heartbreaking act of gun violence has taken 4 lives and left 8 wounded in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan.

My heart is with the victims, their families, and the community. We must act with urgency to end this gun violence crisis. www.cnn.com/us/live-news...

Federal workers are not political pawns.

Trump’s mass firing plan would make a shutdown permanent, taking away livelihoods and harming critical services. I’m introducing the SAFE Act to safeguard federal employees during shutdowns and ensure back pay if they’re fired unlawfully.
