they would contend that their banal art is good art, and there's really nothing more to say to them after that. they don't understand what art is, or wherein its magic lies, or how to be a vulnerable and authentic human. so lighthouses and poorly-acted Bible stories and Hallmark are "art" to them.

Oh, gotcha. Yeah, I live in Phoenix currently and the DOJ singled out our PD specifically as being corrupt and consistently criminal. The core fascist constituency is unphased because their identity is wrapped up in the cult, so nothing can change that. It would cost too much for them to grow.

You are hurting us with this bullshit. We need clearheaded, material analysis in this moment, not ideological, imaginary narratives. You neglect to mention the trillion-dollar propaganda machine, or that the people invested in fascism are emotionally and personally invested. Only violence will win.

they were the only two viable things on the menu given the current power dynamics at the time. what's theoretically possible doesn't become materially possible until you alter the conditions to make it so. we can't by some magic of imagination immediately transcend our material circumstances.

Communists fighting a Nazi-aligned regime are not "oppressors." They're fighting against oppression using the only viable tools at their disposal in their time and place. What would you have had them do? Abide fascism on their doorstep? Let it take over? Win somehow without fighting?
