I guess in the 50s and 60s people still remembered the Depression when an orange and a small box of crayons was a successful Christmas. And it's all been downhill ever since.

Hairspray (The Musical) shot the opening number a block from my office here in Toronto and I think about every single time. Things are constantly being filmed here and I never can tell if it's a big budget release, a mid-budget Netflix series or a local ad for the guy who buys your gold for cash.

Ever since I saw this episode of "Maude" I've been fascinated about her New Year's Nostalgia party where you dress as your favorite year. Of course the party was a disaster...cause Maude.

It used to be that film directors saw movies that were off the beaten path and then they'd champion them to get a wider audience. Or they could talk about how they liked the third "Toy Story."
