The NPS lost about a 1/4 of its permanent staff to mass firings, buyouts, early retirements, and resignations so far this year. This is the official resistance account: we preserve & protect public lands; we are America’s history keepers & storytellers. Join us on this uphill trail. #protectourparks

And, if you are a furloughed ranger or federal worker, we've put together some resources for you here: docs.google.com/document/d/e... Many of us have worked a shut down before, and we know first hand the damage it can cause. Again: stay out of parks during shutdowns, please.

Every #ShutDown is a chance to gut NPS staffing and privatize public lands. Lay-offs are still in the works. Call Congress and demand they not go through a Reduction in Force on the Dept of Interior or Park Service! We're partnering with @5calls.org to #RehireRangers: 5calls.org/issue/public...
Text reads: the administration has threatened to fire government staff (including rangers!) during a shut down. We cannot let this happen! On a dramatic image backdrop.

On the plus side - this is a great chance to visit your local state and county parks!

So, if you have plans to visit a National Park site during the #shutdown, even if they say it's open still- please, don't. The best thing you can do for parks right now is to stay away. Many of us have worked a shutdown before, and we know first hand the damage it causes. #ProtectOurParks

Less rangers on duty leads to vandalism of iconic symbols, destruction of wildlife habitat, & dangerous situations for visitors. This is why parks need rangers: to protect these incredible places, histories, and resources. Without rangers, parks suffer. #RehireRangers
Former national park superintendents urge Trump administration to close parks in case of shutdown

With a government shutdown ahead, and very little information beyond partisan finger pointing, we're not sure what happens tomorrow or how long it will last. In past shutdowns where parks have been kept open, there have been less rangers around to protect the resources (and stock tp in bathrooms).

What essential work did you do that isn’t being continued? What public services, partnerships, or stewardship efforts will fall away because your position isn’t being filled?

📢 Departing rangers just get LOUDER. 📢
We're looking for recently separated employees—including those who took VERA or retired—who want to speak out about their experiences and help the public understand what's really at stake.

You know the work we do, how important it is, and what happens when no one is there to do it. This administration is trying to pretend that our parks are fine. We need to shatter that myth, but freedom of speech is no longer guaranteed to federal workers.

🗣️Your time as federal employees may have ended, but we still need YOU.

September 30th marks the end of an era as our Deferred Resignation Program (DRP) colleagues officially separate from the National Park Service. To those who faced this difficult choice under pressure: you deserved so much better.

We are proud to partner with our pals at Five Calls and have a call to action: call your congressional representative and demand that they support the “Saving the Department of the Interior’s Workforce Act”.

The NPS' mission statement is to protect parks NOW and for FUTURE generations. We spent the summer working overtime to make sure the now was taken care of. But... "the future generations" part is where we need help.

Park rangers shouldn't be used as political pawns—we're the backbone of our public lands, emergency response, and environmental stewardship. Removing park rangers and land protections impacts Americans’ rights to access their public lands.

You may not have noticed many impacts as you’ve visited parks - a coordinated effort they've made to create a mirage, an idea that everything is fine. We're here to tell you, it's not.

We've already lost 24% of NPS staff, and the Trump administration is planning to fire MORE rangers.

This is part of their plan to make parks “fail” - not because they hate nature and history (....we think?), but because they want to take away OUR public lands for THEIR private benefit.
