Impressive plenary from Dave Coffman of Rev looking at the engineering, restoration, and impacts of the Klamath River dam removal.

Beyond this, sharing the vital human side of the story - Economy, livelihoods, skills, experience, reconnecting the river, and Yurok people’s lives too

In some parts of the UK like Brighton & Hove, bee bricks have been made mandatory for new buildings taller than 5 meters. These bricks contain narrow holes designed to mimic the natural nesting sites of solitary bees, which make up the majority of Britain’s 270 bee species.

It’s great to see WA Gov has committed to improving its state cat laws to enable local governments to prevent pet cats from roaming; a win-win-win solution for wildlife, cats and human health. NSW is now the only state who hasn't updated their laws.

Good to see new efforts for mink control in Ireland, including detection dogs, but why only ‘pilot projects’?

Planning & delivering eradication is the only effective way to protect not only ground nesting birds, but also amphibians and fish.

What are we waiting for!?

Hope is most often the emotion evoked when reflecting on ecological restoration and rewilding

Hard-won major dam removal from Klamath River is now bringing
hope to Yurok people, and their beloved salmon, as the river is enabled to heal itself

Insightful, hopeful article by

Hope, joy, absurdity and marvel: there is so much more to our world story than loss
Amid environmental tragedy, a hidden world of curiosity and wonder still exists. And in this, says Natalie Kyriacou, we can find glimmers of hope

Almost 200,000 people have told @jessikaroswall.ec.europa.eu #HandsOFFNature

A resounding response from EU citizens given the underhanded way the Commission quietly launched the consultation over the August holiday window 👏

Multiple benefits always arise from restoring ecosystems…

In the case of mangroves, marine & terrestrial nature both benefit, as well as climate, fisheries & coastal protection too…

Could You contribute to large scale mangrove restoration in some way?

#GenerationRestoration - Let’s do it!

Interest in large-scale mangrove restoration is growing, but success depends on aligning all stakeholders—NGOs, govts, scientists, & communities—around science-based approaches.

Ireland’s government should halt burning 🔥 and scale up restoration of the enormous areas of degraded peat bogs… Even more to gain
restoring.bsky.social
Peatlands are sponges for carbon, water, & nature

If our aim is to halt & reverse nature loss + climate change our first step is stopping damaging practices

Finally UK Govt has banned burning of peatland covering ~700,000 Ha in England, enabling restoring peatlands to begin

#SciArtSeptember 5 - Corridor

Highways are like stripes of death criscrossing the world. Though useful to humans, they damage ecosystems directly by killing wildlife and in various indirect ways, including fragmenting habitats into pieces. Wildlife crossings are one way to mitigate that damage.

#SciArtSeptember 4 - Riverbank

Many mammals across the world have evolved an otter-like body shape and lifestyle. Perhaps the oddest and one of the most obscure is the West African giant otter shrew (Potamogale velox).

Not an otter, not a shrew, but a distant cousin of elephants!
