💡 Heart attack or cardiac arrest? They’re not the same thing!

This #RestartAHeart month, take a minute to learn the difference (and what to do in each case) ❤️

Because knowing what to do could save a life.

Every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces the chance of surviving a cardiac arrest by 10%.*

But by learning the skills to save a life, you could make a real difference: resus.org.uk/rsah

Black background with red text that says ‘How to perform CPR’ with a subtitle that says ‘a basic step-by-step guide’. Underneath the text there is an illustration of someone performing CPR. Step 1: "Check for danger." Advises ensuring the surroundings are safe before approaching the collapsed person.
Step 2: "Get help." Instructs shouting for help and shaking the person gently to check for a response.
Step 3: "Check breathing." Advises looking, listening, and feeling for normal breathing.
Step 4: "Call 999." Suggests using the phone on loudspeaker and informing emergency services about the unresponsive person. Step 5: "Start chest compressions." Instructions are given on proper hand placement, compression technique, and maintaining rhythm.
Step 6: "Get a defib (if you can)." It instructs calling 999 for the location of the nearest AED and having someone retrieve it if possible, emphasising not to leave the person alone. Step 7: "If you have a defib, switch it on and follow the instructions." The text explains that the defibrillator (AED) will use voice prompts to guide the user.
Step 8: "Continue CPR." The text advises continuing CPR until the AED gives further instructions, a paramedic arrives, or the person shows signs of life.

Back to school means new learning, but for many students, that doesn’t include CPR.

Although it’s on the curriculum, there’s no system to ensure training is delivered. It's time to change that.
