This will be another hurdle out of the way for the planned demolition of the mall. Now that the town of Amherst has won its eminent domain case against JCPenney, it is only a matter of time. No closing date for JCPenney has been announced, but I'd expect it soon.

Meanwhile, this will pave the way for the mall's demolition, already planned. Now that the town has won eminent domain proceedings over the JCPenney anchor, redevelopment can move forward once Macy's departs. A closing date for JCPenney has yet to be announced.

I've often said, all we as New Yorkers gained from having Macy's fall into the hands of Federated, was that the name was kept on. Everything else went right down the drain and is a shallow farce of its former self. Macy's as it was, died in 94.

The set itself took up the majority of the JCPenney wing, including the malls food court. Roughly 15-20% of the mall was rehabbed and disguised into 1980s peak mall glory. Today, the set area has been stripped of decor, and what remains is painted dull grey. The mall closed in 2021 and is abandoned.
