And www.photopea.com is not bad either, even though it's browser-based.
GIMP still pretty much sucks sadly. And Krita is an option if you're into digital painting.

That's great to hear, I'm thinking about switching myself. But in my case that would mean dropping more than 10 years of knowhow in After Effects completely for an uncertain future. Again, a hard decision to make, if there's no open source alternative for certain workflows.

Yeah, it's probably a good time in general to switch up the software stack completely...
I'm thinking about going all-in on Linux. Which would mean losing After Effects. Hopefully DaVinci Fusion can be used for character animation.
I would recommend Synfig Studio to you, but tbh I really don't... 😅
