On the topic of organizing in groups, here's a really great summary of what to watch out for. ANY kind of group can become a high control group, and it's on a spectrum. They're not all Jonestown . But if your group has multiple of these traits, it's probably toxic.
The 25 Signs you’re in a High-Control Group or Cult by Anastasia Somerville-Wong
It is a really healthy and rewarding thing to be part of a movement for positive change and progress, and to be part of a community which encourages moral and spiritual growth. It can do wonders fo…

I’ve seen the pictures of Trump with Epstein’s girls. Here’s what’s in them - @michaelwolffnyc.bsky.social

I think Trump would rather Congress never vote to reopen the government than let Adelrita Grijalva trigger the Epstein Files discharge. And I bet he doesn’t have a plan other than the Insurrection Act.

This administration is flooding the zone so furiously that people have largely lost track of the lethal attacks on boats in the Caribbean, the gov’t shutdown, the economy, failed release of the Epstein files & so much else. It’s a tactic of would-be strongmen.

A clear-eyed observer might think that every member of the Trump administration spends all their time committing crimes, but that is not true.

They also spend quite a lot of time covering up crimes.

OK. Again, the point was never to change your mind specifically, but to answer your questions by laying out what I see as the truth, whether you read the answers you asked for or not.

The Civil War happened in the 1860s, not the 1990s. The KKK were still a powerful unchecked terrorist force until their violent reaction to the Civil Rights Act prompted Johnson to tell the FBI to get serious about ending them. MAGA is the same ideology, white male Christian supremacy.
How Hoover Took Down the Klan
The FBI’s successful campaign against white supremacists is also a cautionary tale.

Most people who obsess over Will Stancil and defend the online abuse he receives are indeed proud Marxists. There's nothing wrong with acknowledging that fact and commenting on why it might be the case. It makes sense that people who despise debate as a concept would hate someone who does it a lot.

Is the Regime deliberately staging troops in advance of divulging the Epstein files?Because what is in there must be so despicable and disturbing that they are preparing for the mass protest demanding resignations of incriminated people and this will trigger Trump to declare Martial Law.

Adelita Grijalva won her election fair and square.

Now House Speaker Mike Johnson is refusing to swear her in because she would be the final signature to release the Epstein files.

Mr. Speaker, respect democracy. Obey the law. Swear Representative Grijalva in immediately.

When people have strongly held political and ideological beliefs, they WANT to discuss and debate about them. Just naturally. And that is fine. It's not somehow destructive to society. Society is collapsing because of the actions of specific fascists who wrote out their plan and signed their names.

Yes, some algorithms do show people content that they're likely to disagree with, to get them hooked into spending time on that site to do their arguing, but the original point of forums was to state positions and then debate them, and there were no algorithms and we argued all the time.
revmagdalen.bsky.social
That's bullshit. Society was always this polarized, we had a whole civil war over the exact same issue. And then a hundred year reign of terror by the unchecked KKK. People don't just get tricked into having arguments, there are genuine, deep disagreements on basic *values*.

I think a lot of online Leftists become convinced that since they have found the one Correct political opinion, there is no point in debating anything, it's pointless, the answer is always Marxism.

But for those of us outside that framework, there's a lot to debate.
revmagdalen.bsky.social
No, you were right, that's the reason people do this perfectly fine hobby that is just the digital version of something people used to do at soda fountains, town squares, grazing commons, washyards, etc. It's how democracy is supposed to work, the people spout their arguments and then vote.

But wouldn't the best defense be to help the side that is trying to stop the side that wants to invade Canada? I get not wanting refugees because you can't really tell who's who, and it could bring the war into Canada. But what about sending military aid to the Blue state forces?

True. That's the advantage of having an enemy that doesn't exist. you can say whatever you want. "We're winning!" or "Things are going badly!" Whatever fits your current narrative, you can just make up on the spot.

And no, there's no reason why communicating over text would be inherently more abusive than the old fashioned town square. People just give themselves permission to be jerks when they can hide their identities, but they don't *have* to do that. The culture could change to find that repulsive.

Changing the other person's mind is not the point of having a national conversation about topics of political importance. It's so that the arguments for positions can be laid out, so that those who haven't made up their minds yet can see why other people hold these positions.

Stephen Miller’s entire life has been building to the ecstatic moment where he gets to press a button and have some political dissident murdered. The ultimate power fantasy. He cannot be dissuaded from it, because he will always find his way back to it; it has the same magnetism as any other fetish.

My gosh. After the US bombed multiple boats in the middle of the ocean, murdering people on grounds that they were allegedly "carrying drugs," the US Attorney General says "Just like we did with cartels, we're going to take the same approach, President Trump, with Antifa."

Our authoritarianism is run on clichés borrowed from the Eastern Europe of twenty years ago. Paid protestors, disloyal cities, evil Soros, vast conspiracies — it was all tiresome then and there, and now it’s pathetic.

Trump: "They're, like, insurrectionists, they're terrible people. But you really wonder why. Why are they doing it? What are they gaining? Other than they're obviously paid. They're paid a lot of money."
