CHRISTMAS – day two, St Stephen’s Day
A day of writing for future publication, and then visiting – most appropriate to the feast of St Stephen, the deacon of Acts 6.
Remember:
Good King Wenceslas looked out, on the feast of Stephen,…
you who now will bless the poor, shall yourselves find blessing.

It is such a blessing to have a cosy nook to occupy when quiet undisturbed reading and study is required.

Could I really be an influencer of the National Trust?
Management attention had been drawn to me bringing my own china plate. It had prompted single-use disposable plates being replaced with ‘real’ crockery for all.

What a lovely morning at Sissinghurst Castle, in the current exhibition and then the Delos garden. All so inspiring.

Yesterday, I was near ecstatic to be told it was Punctuation Day. (Seemingly, a US special day, rather than a UK one. Never mind, I can overlook that detail.) As an editor, punctuation is a real source of excitement to me.
And why have I not noticed this book before? It had me in fits of laughter.

At the end of a rather demanding week, the postman delivered my favourite book review journal on Friday. On Sunday, I had the opportunity and leisure to immerse myself in beautiful literature in its own right. Joy!

The past four days have included three in the neighbouring county of Sussex: in Eastbourne, Chichester and Wakehurst. The last offered wonderful sights like these.

Visiting in Eastbourne, I took the opportunity of finding Camilla's Bookshop in Grove Road. (A fellow browser of books in Tunbridge Wells had recommended it.) What an amazing shop! Piles of antiquarian and secondhand books from the floor to the ceiling. And I came away with a fascinating volume.

For the teacher, the long summer holiday is not necessarily what people might think. For the last two weeks, there have been work-related meetings most days. Nevertheless, it has been a great pleasure to retreat to the peace of this place once labour is done.

Thank you TN1 for the great welcome as ever, and for the amazing Turkish meze. How could I have missed on the menu in the past?!

What a kind and warm welcome at one of my favourite haunts this morning: the coffee shop (and secondhand book store) at Sissinghurst Castle (National Trust).
