I certainly will not say I enjoy it, but I will admit that living in town and shoveling my stretch of sidewalk is a satisfying job.
A maple tree had left in front of snow. My sidewalk, here except for pressed down snow where someone had already walked, runs and paved parallel to the street, now clear. Skeletal trees and a large pine in the background in front of some houses.

Coffee is percolating. Admiring Keuka Lake in winter and then settling in to edit. It's been a busy couple weeks, and I'm grateful for time to write.

The lake is visible beyond snow dusted grape vines, leafless trees and some pine. Snow streaks the hills beyond and the blue sky, graced with some soft clouds, lends its hue to Keuka.

It turns out that my wife wasn't the only one to bring a dog to the office yesterday.
I am thankful for dogs.

A golden retriever puppy getting sniffed by three other dogs. The puppy is already bigger than the small white one to the lower left and our Toby, grey with light brown head in a purple harness. The grey dog to right getting the butt sniff is the only one larger than the puppy, though not by much. Grey dog Clover laying on his side on the floor next to our Morkie Toby, who lays on a blue floral pillow. They are friends now.

This is so soulless, I can't stand it. We have BRAINS. We can USE THEM.
Al is also changing how we communicate. With so little free time and so much pressure to be perfect, many who've never cooked a turkey might have a chatbot walk them through the steps, feeling safer asking "stupid questions" in private. People even report using Al conversation prompts to get lively discussions going at the table. Al can generate the toast, the prayer, the party games and the poem read before dessert.

Talked about peer review today for 25 min with a student who, by his own account, had little chance to pick up such social skills. Laid out where he had overstepped, formulas to ease communication, his talents, next steps. Tough convo; ended with friendly chatting.

I feel like Henry James running over a 50% approval rating with high school sophomores is pretty solid.
