Because math has a lot of stupid and complicated rules that only make sense to a madman. It's the same with English. English has a lot of stupid, complicated rules that make no sense and often contradict each other and/or straight up lie to you. There are TONS of exceptions to "i before e"

Mostly taught the class instead of the sub when our teacher was out for maternity leave. Then, I had enough credits that I didn't have to do math for Senior year because they counted the Algebra 1 as a full credit despite me showing I never deserved to be in the class. Fucking ableism.
