I helped launch and run a startup commercializing technology that could identify the fields where more fertilizer wouldn't increase crop productivity and save farmers money. SBIR funding from NSF is how we made the leap from concept to product and acquisition.

Thanks @standupforscience.bsky.social for organizing! @nytimes.com please report on this, the public deserves to understand how decreasing DEIA and funding in Science will impact them. Thanks @nature.com for live reporting! @goodtroublein.bsky.social @indivisible.org @iubiology.bsky.social
People gathered in front of the state house in Indianapolis on March 7th 2025 to protest the funding cuts and destruction of DEIA measures. Signs say for examples: « You know it’s bad when that many introverts rally » « Science not silence » « what makes America great? Science » People gathered in front of the state house in Indianapolis on March 7th 2025 to protest the funding cuts and destruction of DEIA measures. A woman is wearing a shirt that says « humanity needs science ». Approximately 200 people of a range of ages stood up for science and listened to speakers highlighting how we should not remain silent and we should instead listen to our inner voice that does not agree with the measures taken in these past 46 days.

I'm incredibly proud of the work the broad plant science community has done through the ROOT&SHOOT initiative.
Given its nature, our future funding is uncertain.
Please give us a boost by sharing this announcement and joining us for the event, we'd love to have a big turnout. Thanks! 💚 #PlantSci

“It's no wonder the public is losing trust in . . . universities and funding agencies. . . They hide behind legalistic excuses & crafted statements that say little . . . prioritize their reputations & budgets over the interests of their less powerful constituents.”

An ode to the door stops which were kindly returned to the 3rd floor of Myers Hall:

Hello door stop, my old friend
I can walk through doors again
Lab equipment softly beeping
Arabidopsis seeds in tubes sleeping
And the fume hoods which vent out some methane
Still remain
Within the sound of science
