Between the 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021 Census *every* ethnic group in the UK has become *less* geographically segregated and *all* groups, majority and minorities, are more likely to interact with people not like them

Talking of understanding things: Reading the article..one of the sections is "Degrees ‘don’t get young people a job’" and then two paragraphs above that:
"one in five would be financially better off if they skipped higher education.".

in other words,4 in 5 are better off going to higher ed?

Absolutely. The two most important things I learned at uni were "Check the source. If it gives you an emotional response, check it twice. If you want it to be true, check it three times" and "Who gave them the flag?" and these were in the social geography classes I took one semester.

Same. For me it was the critical thinking and what questions to ask that I learned in the social geography part of my geography minor that I have used every day

Here's a mediocre idea for a webapp or twitter bot: "Is It Just Me Or Are The Trains Crap". You tell it the train you're on, and how late it is; you get, in return, contextual information about how unusual that is.

Yep, I think it is a fairly common thing in coastal villages and towns.

With tractors it is for a good harvest, with boats it is to keep the people on them safe.

Would not surprise me if it is done with mines, logging equipt etc too.
