Had fun working with the @rhodorangers.bsky.social over the weekend to tackle invasive rhodo in Connemara!

A long weekend of slow work digging up regrowth from old stumps and seedlings while getting stung by bees and drenched in the odd downpour at our first site in Corr Uí Mhongáin..... mostly done here but some giant rhubarb will eventually need seeing to

Last night @hetzgonnabeme.bsky.social presented Galway Green Drinks at the Galway Climate Inspirations Festival's Giob Geab event. Each participant had 5 minutes to talk about their project, using 5 slides and mainly images. It was great learning about all the incredible work being done in Galway!

The health and integrity of a habitat is crucial to its resilience against invasive species such as Rhododendron as demonstrated by the lack of rhododendron present in this very wet blanket bog in Coill mór, Conamara vs old conifer plantation (which would have been drained). Pics from same spot

Well done @hetzgonnabeme.bsky.social for organising this new hit in Galway city!

Thanks to everyone who joined us Tuesday night for our monthly #greendrinks event! We're thrilled with the turnout and connections being made.

A big thanks also to David Foy, who gave a great presentation about the EU Nature Restoration Law and what it means for Ireland.

Another old woodland we last worked at last year (baile na hInse) where some of our (professionally trained) volunteers treated this monster 0.5 acre thicket of rhodo. Glad to see that about 90-95% of it is without foliage. We'll be going back to this site in September to carry out follow up work

Update re yew seedlings (three of which found to date) - they have been given temporary protection considering the relative rareness of wild yew

Have you registered for our next #GreenDrinks event? It's a great way to meet others doing important environmental work, and we'll have a great speaker on the night. Contact @hetzgonnabeme.bsky.social or @david-smyth-eco.bsky.social for more info and register here:

Trail cam footage on farm. A hen corncrake with very young chicks. First time to have 100% proof of corncrake breeding on farm as corncrake so secretive. 20 years of hard labour to produce this.....

Another great turnout for Green Drinks tonight! @georgiamacmillan.bsky.social gave a great talk about light pollution and dark sky initiatives. Thanks to all who attended, hope to see you next month!

The best time to clear rhododendron was in the 1700's when it was first introduced. The second best time is now - only three of us out today but a lot done (1/3) @hetzgonnabeme.bsky.social @cianoceallaigh.bsky.social @rewildingire.bsky.social
