Author of The Unlikely Heroics of Sam Holloway, On the Third Day & The Suicide Club. I sell tiny stories on scrolls on Etsy (rhysthomashello). Science communicator at Cardiff Uni. One hand in my pocket and the other one giving the peace sign.
I've been doing my night walk for 10 years as of this Jan. The same infinity-shaped route, just over half a mile out, loop back, and the other way and back. It's just streets of modern houses but I still love it. 6 or 7 days a week for 10 years- I've walked nearly 8,000 miles across this tiny patch.

The world is like an Alan Moore/ Frank Milker comic right now

I just finished reading The Dark Knight Returns and I'm now moving onto another classic. I've been wanting to read these books for decades and now at last the time has come. Nothing hits quite like an Alan Moore comic.

An old writing haunt of mine from the very old days - Asda Living, Talbot Green retail park. A nice, calming vibe and a recent refurbishment, which I'm not a huge fan of but hey ho. I used to come here when I lived in Pontyclun. I'd walk around Trecastell woods and then decamp here with my notebook

The random cat comes into our house and who never stops moving so it's really hard to get a picture of her. She's called Link ❤️

It walks a fine line between the ridiculous and the sublime, often stepping off the tightrope into both sides, sometimes simultaneously (!), but there's nothing out there remotely like it, or operating at this level.

I was shuffling the Stone Roses albums on my night walk tonight and Your Star Will Shine came on, hurltling me back to the Boars Head when I was a teenager learning the art of afternoon drinking with Rafe et al. Man I was happy then, the type of happiness you can only really have when you're young.

A bit of a weird side door entry into Dumas' catalogue but this book really fucked

If anybody is wondering what's happened to my drawing practice I'm currently following a very long court case so am spending my lunch hours in the public gallery. I hope to get back to drawing practice in 2026!

Was sad to hear of the passing of Marina Lewycka. I always respected her after watching a piece on a TV show where she revealed she wrote in bed. I've had her Ukrainian tractor book on my shelf for years - I will read it in 2026.

Heard some great writing advice from Jonathan Franzen today. "Take a hard look at every sentence. Shake it. Shake it again. I guarantee you, it can be better."
