With all the talk of the 50th anniversary of The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and Lightfoot’s song, it’s a good time to mention @nicholasjennings.bsky.social fabulous bio of Lightfoot. www.penguinrandomhouse.ca/books/541324... A great read. #GordonLightfoot #TheEdmundFitzgerald

May not help me with the cool kids but I’m a big Carpenter’s fan. Karen was rated as one of the greatest voices of all time by Rolling Stone magazine, BTW. Played the hell out of this album when it came out in 1971, especially the Bacharach/David medley. #thecarpenters #popmusic

For any long-suffering @newyorkgiants.bsky.social fans out there, great to see reports that Jameis Winston will be tapped to go this weekend if Dart can’t. Wilson has had a great career, but it’s over. #NewYorkGiants. giantswire.usatoday.com/story/sports...

Has a song ever painted a more vivid picture, tragic though it was?
Great story.

"A half-century later...“The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” stands as a crucial work of historical preservation for an incident that might have otherwise faded from collective memory."

This is precisely the kind of government coercion that the First Amendment was designed to prevent — and media companies need to start standing up rather than capitulating to it.

You are not welcome here Pete Hoosktra.

MAGA ambassador Pete Hoosktra is telling Canada that he doesn't like the term "elbows up." He says it's anti-American.
Sorry Pete, your president might be able to fire Jimmy Kimmel but you don't get to tell Canadians how to talk.

A Palestinian film about a little boy won an award and Israel cut off the funds immediately.
Meanwhile we are subjected to whiny articles about how unfair it is to boycott Israeli films, academics, artists.
This is about standing up to genocide.

Airlines merged from 12 major carriers in 1980 to 4 today.

Four giants control 80% of meat processing.

A handful of companies control the pharmaceutical industry.

The evidence of corporate concentration is everywhere.

It means more power for them and less freedom for you.
In 1983, 50 companies controlled 90% of the U.S. media market. That number is now down to 5.
