Patiently persistent. Trails, nature, reconciliation, cycling, transit, walking, rolling, livable cities. Ban private jets, yachts, mansions & luxury vehicles.

On the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh & səlilwətaɬ Nations.
Sadly and unacceptably, the US white supremacist empire was created to ethnically cleanse and kill Native People to steal their land.

Automakers protested. The government caved and instead used seatbelt laws moving responsibly from corporations to individuals and subjecting them to sometimes racist police enforcement negatively impacting people’s freedom and safety from police harassment. 2/2

Sure. But in this case and many it is designed to distract from systemic problems caused by irresponsible corporations. And they know it. Another example is that the government mandated seatbelt interlocks so vehicles would not start until seatbelt were fastened. 1/2

The real problem is the federal government refusing to require safe trucks including a direct vision standard and the local government not building protected bike lanes and protected intersections with signal phases to eliminate conflicts. Need to focus on reporting and solving the systemic problems

Governments have known since the beginning that motor vehicles are unsafe yet they still allowed them to be used in cities. Governments still allow automakers to manipulate into defending their dangerous products.

Sadly, that is exactly what huge corporations want. They pit people against each other to distract from the problems they are creating. The only solution is to demand governments address the systemic problems. bsky.app/profile/rich...
Blaming individuals for systemic problems not effective at solving systemic problems. The actual headline should be something like:
Person walking killed by the refusal of the city to make the intersection safe and the refusal of the US Empire to make SUVs safe for people walking.
This happens every day with a collective shrug from most in NYC - particularly the cops and elected officials - while every single crime that happens in the subway is put under a microscope.

Netflix should make a movie about that.
