I want to talk about Yuiman x Ariya as a ship and why I like it. The gist of it is that, despite their lack of interaction within the main game itself, all of the scattered bits of lore about them paint a silhouette of a very beautiful tragic yuri. A thread 🧵.

ZUN : You know what that is. It's a stone mask. There's even a spot to put a red stone in it (Jojo's reference). Since she's an ugly woman, she's trying to hide that ugliness with a stone mask.

ZUN : Originally this spellcard was called Zoltax Communication, but I couldn't think of a better name for the Extra stage version, so I made this one Discommunication.

ZUN : Like Great Fairy Wars, this sort of danmaku is heretical and can't really be put in the mainstream. The same applies to the photography games, they can't be dodged.

ZUN : It's an Archaeopteryx. I drew it more or less the same way as the fossil looked like.

ZUN : I don't draw things on paper anymore. Everything I do is digital now, so I don't leave any interesting physical drawings (for the games).

ZUN : I thought I had the game balance done quite well this time around, so it might be a good idea to make it so you unlock Extra mode by clearing Normal instead of easy. So, 1 day before the mastering, I asked Kii-san, and she said "just do as you like".
