Airlines charge for extra baggage. Weight is a major factor in fuel consumption. Why should someone who weighs 50kgs more than another pay the same?
I've been squeezed out of part of the seat I've paid for by someone who doesn't fit their seat more than once. No refund to me.

I disturbed the Kestrel roosting under my eaves, which elicited soft sharp calls from a Coal Tit sheltering somewhere close.

Well, no, actually. Many never see the sea. Common Gulls are more likely inland than on the coast.
