But quacks like Wessely only do what's good for quacks like Wessely. No different than Musk in this regard. Just a fool elevated far above his meagre talent.

It explains a lot that he is celebrated by his peers, when you consider medicine's massive failure in dealing with ME/CFS and Long Covid.
richardvallee.bsky.social
The appearance of saving money, anyway.

It would have actually saved money to solve the problem. The costs incurred would have been turned into income years ago. In addition to the misery toll.

Quacks like Wessely save governments money the same way Musk's DOGE does: not at all.
richardvallee.bsky.social
Yup. None of that "history will judge them" crap.

When history "judges" people, it's because no justice was done.

Judge them, with actual judges, for all the harm they committed. We can end this cycle of nightmarish misery, even if they insist on continuing.

Book smart people can be dumb as hell. This guy is a hubristic fool, and he has always been happy making life worse for as many people as possible.

It's amazing how even in medicine awful people get promoted ass-backward, not in spite of their incompetence, but because of it.
richardvallee.bsky.social
But a lot of what there is to complain about here, especially "psychosomatic mental illness" that does not improve with any treatment, because the idea & treatments are wrong, has been the natural outcome of his awful work.

Same thing as Trump voters who got what they voted for and hate it.
richardvallee.bsky.social
This asshole has been happily misdiagnosing people with chronic illnesses as mentally ill for decades. He bears huge responsibility for this.

Real mental illness is not over-diagnosed, if anything it's significantly under-diagnosed.

"The evidence has been building for years and has been consistent; COVID causes brain damage.

Despite the clear evidence, we’ve continued to infect the population, not once, but repeatedly, with no plan to end the onslaught of reinfections."

Nobody has Long COVID, but everybody has brain fog, cognitive decline and memory loss. I talk about the overwhelming scientific evidence that COVID damages the brain, and the overwhelming social unwillingness to acknowledge it in my latest:

Joking memes make light of the uncomfortable reality: everyone's got a little of that post-COVID brain damage these days

1) We’ve written an article about the DecodeME results: what the study measured, what the results show, and why its findings are important.

It has been disastrous from the start.

It has been disastrous for decades.

It's not 9 months of a failed government that recently did that.
richardvallee.bsky.social
Basically: the medical profession has performed equally poorly on an open book exam with unlimited time and interim gradings as they are doing under a demolished medical research and health care infrastructure.

Frankly, I find that nothing but a cheap excuse.
richardvallee.bsky.social
That point would be much more convincing if anything good was being done about Long Covid elsewhere, or in the 4 years of normal operations under the Biden administration.

Instead there is literally no difference: Long Covid is ignored same as it was, same as chronic illness for decades before.

Disinformation straight from experts and authorities themselves.

Disinformation barely any different than what the conspiracy fantasy communities have been saying.

Failure by design, their refusal to do anything amply recorded. Those systems deserve to be smashed into the ground.
richardvallee.bsky.social
When some governments want to pretend that they did something about Long Covid, know that that 'something' was often listening to and gifting overt deniers with funding so they could corruptly produce garbage-tier research covering it up.

Experts failed us. Governments failed us. Total failure.

At the end of Sammie McFarland's evidence session, we are shown this extract from a government meeting of 9 June 2020.

Dr Shamez Ladhani from PHE advises against using the label "long covid" on children.

#UKCovidInquiry
Extract reads:
"Cases in children do not give us an indication of the general population. The pandemic has taken a huge toll on children and families, irrespective of whether they have had the virus or if it is due to lockdowns or school closures. Dr Ladhani was clear that children should not be labelled with long COVID (i.e., a medical condition) as this has potential to cause longer-term, psychological harm."

People need to be punished for this. There is no reasonable case to make otherwise. This cycle of failure, decades long and extremely destructive for millions of people, will not end until a heavy price is paid for this malfeasance.

Things should never have gotten this bad, it's not acceptable.
richardvallee.bsky.social
Failures never get any more intentional than this, and have never come with more warnings and data to back them up.

We could have had treatments for this years ago, but the work has not been done, promoting instead weird alternative medicine pseudoscience while insisting it doesn't even exist.
richardvallee.bsky.social
Nothing will change until the medical profession is held accountable for this miserable intentional failure.

Thousands of people warned them from early 2020, and so many times since then. It was brushed aside until it started making the news, and zero progress has been made since.
richardvallee.bsky.social
Rich of the Lancet to publish this, part of why this crisis has been ignored comes from an awful clinical trial they published in 2011, which fraudulently claimed that therapy and exercise are all that's needed to deal with this.

This is ignored because chronic illness has been ignored for decades.
richardvallee.bsky.social
All of this was predicted. Authorities and experts were warned and are on record as having knowledge of it, and having dismissed it.

It was largely avoidable, and we should have treatment for this. We could have. The medical profession chose not to.

This is their fault. This needs accountability.
richardvallee.bsky.social
This problem has been known for decades, and medicine still refuses to do anything competent about it.

They are completely stuck in a cycle of repeating nonsense and promoting alternative medicine pseudoscience, because somehow it suits them.

They are fine with failure. Failure brings failure.
richardvallee.bsky.social
When an anatomy of this disaster will be made, and it will happen, it will be impossible to examine what went wrong because it can only be summed as: everything, everything and almost everyone got it wrong.

An almost perfect failure. It's actually hard to get a grade of 0 with this many hints.
richardvallee.bsky.social
All research since then has only confirmed the scale and cost of the problem, and how it will not just go away.

Even the Lancet bears heavy responsibility in it, the invalid belief most MDs have that you can treat this easily with therapy and exercise comes in part from research they published.
richardvallee.bsky.social
This is exactly what the famous line from the TV series Chernobyl is all about:

"Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth. Sooner or later, that debt is paid"

So far the only people paying that debt is those dead, sick and disabled by it. No one in a position of responsibility has faced any.
richardvallee.bsky.social
Still nothing good or competent is happening today. There is research but it still meets constant opposition and hostility, and has made no difference.

Too many people have staked their reputations on insisting no such thing exists, and every major institution failed just as miserably.
richardvallee.bsky.social
It's hard to put in context the magnitude of this failure of choice. It was all intentional, because this kind of illness is the very core of psychosomatic ideology, it's what they built it on.

So they all assumed it was of no concern, something easily handled with psychotherapy and exercise.
richardvallee.bsky.social
They all said it wouldn't happen. All of them. Or that they weren't concerned about it. When mass infection strategies were chosen, all of this was ignored.

Since then hundreds of thousands have raised the issue again and again, even as denial and gaslighting remain the norm to this day.
