Even if that were partially true for some locations, it's not at the scale, frequency, amount, or any other measure that matters.

Serious question: can't you just listen to the digital version until the physical restocks?
richih.bsky.social
Yeah, they are much, MUCH harder to recover from.

They are more reliable and resilient than HDD -- until they are not.

Good luck, and get all quotes in writing beforehand. This business is half extortion in the best of cases.

Above is still applicable, but SSDs are often impossible to recover from once they corrupt. Sorry to not be able to tell you anything better.

And to be clear: many professional shops will simply run ddrescue & foremost (or similar) and charge you through the nose for it.
richih.bsky.social
I would not trust them. And they are expensive.

SSD or HDD?

If you find someone who knows what those words mean, get someone to boot Linux. Make a full copy of the drive with ddrescue. Power down, remove drive. Only operate on the copy from now. Use foremost to get all data that is recoverable.

Tragic: Being the best person in the company at a job but it isn't your job and you don't want it to be so you just have to watch them fumble this

I'm just here thinking about all the effort you are going to put into opsec to make sure not to be in any reflections.

The pan in your video shows something of a reflection in the mirror, but to your point years ago: you're a good person, so (almost) no one is going to bother to really dox you.

4 cents is likely too low as they weigh a bit; I don't know enough about rolling to even guesstimate a price for making a product from the metal.

My point was that the $4 feeds several resellers with ample margins, yes.

Two months later, I am still mentally stuck on how "a metal straw's cost is $4" is the underpinning of that story.

Because your employer also did? ;)

@janboehm.bsky.social wär übrigens geil wenn du auch auf Mastodon weiter zumindest reposten würdest.

Pretty decent yes. Later stuff starts to intertwine, so wait a bit with that. His timeline of writing is roughly:
* Need this published in Christian youth magazines
* Good standalone
* Good everything relates
* Horny old man afraid of dying

It's been a decade or two since I've read the autobiographical ~novel, I think she had a relevant PHd and earned the money to keep the early, starving, somewhat unsuccessful author alive?

To be clear, his wife redid the math from scratch. If anything, he needed her help in math and physics, not the other way around.

We'd have a whole extra novella by RAAH if Kerbal Space Program had existed back then.
