But that’s kinda what the monarchy is in the UK these days. They have no power, it’s not the government, it’s the idea of country. “King and country” not Prime Minister or President. I still think it would be weird for kids to pledge for that every day. Here it would just breed ennui or contempt.

In the US, schoolkids pledge allegiance to the flag. Guess why no one else does this.
