There's a wonderful poetry group in the #nwpstudio where teachers can share and talk about poetry. Yesterday's prompt inspired by Naomi Shihab Nye's "Shoulders": Think of something you didn't think about much until it was gone. The rain. An ex. Your body pre-injury/illness. bit.ly/46P9DKv

Who could disagree with Timothy Cook’s argument that “real critical thinking requires exploring genuine uncertainty,” and that the Canvas-OpenAI example that he skewers is problematic. We should find examples of students interacting with AI in deeper ways. www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-...
AI Tutors Are Teaching Kids to Fake Critical Thinking

April is Poetry Month!

In class today, students rambled across my anthologies to find, read, and share their thoughs on poems, as we’ve done for thousands of years. Welcome to the club!

The turnout in small towns across the country has been incredible drawing crowds of thousands. We’re already seeing over one million in attendance nationwide, and events are still underway. Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Ohio all had especially surprising showings.

Today, all of you helped shift the narrative. You can see it clearly in the wave of MAGA comments trying to drown us out, they’re rattled. Small towns across the Heartland drawing record-breaking crowds? That’s not something we’ve seen before.

Stylized promotional graphic with a red textured background and large speech bubbles. The quote in white text reads: “The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) itself serves to perpetuate the manufactured education crisis, which benefits the media (more clicks), political leaders, and the education marketplace.” — Dr. P.L. Thomas. Below the quote is a blue-toned, high-contrast image of Dr. Thomas wearing glasses and smiling. The A4PEP logo appears in the lower left corner.
