It's the same mechanism at play as in the 90's internet craze. It it is driven by VCs. They fund even the most absurd ideas, since even they do not know which one is going to make it. If one out of 15 startups in your portfolio makes it, it more than pays for the losses incurred by the others.

Three dudes from wealthy families:

"We needed multiple victims to get multiple millions and we picked children because children are precious. The state would be willing to pay ransom for them. And they don't fight back. They're vulnerable..."

This got them between 46 and 35 years in prison.

👍

Or maybe they actually planned to overthrow the local govt., put themselves in their seat and then take it from there. you'd need far fewer people for that, but still. What kind of elaborate plan can one expect from two sex crazed kids in their early twenties?

I see. I have a different understanding there bc. for me elaborate means thought through, which is nearly the same as smart. But I agree that simple plans are better, because more moving parts means a higher prob. of error.

Happy to say that I ditched gmail six years ago.

Exactly. How can this be an 'elaborate plan' ?

This sounds more than dumb, but it does not add up. If two idiots are able to make an 'elaborate plan' about "invading" an island by killing all the men and enslaving the women, how can they overlook the minor detail that it actually has 87.000 inhabitants?

Yes, it's the bread and butter of SciFi, I'd say.

"AI’s primary role is to fortify governance systems."
Unfortunately, I fully agree.

Questions to ask: Why is the CEO of a privately owned tech company *threatening* people like a head of state in posession of the atom bomb ? Who has helped to maneuvre him and others into that position ? And how the fuck does he dare!

Interesting. Basically whatever the traffickers have not yet taken, the 'safe harbor' state will now take from a refugee. This measure, although prob. intended to emphasize the 'you are not welcome' message, indeed looks Holocausty.

First Softbank, now Thiel. Others might follow, starting the slide.

They'll have to get creative, that's for sure. With all the electronic and other countermeasures these day, drone action against a carrier does not sound like it would be very promising. Ballistic missiles maybe. So much unnecessary loss of life would ensue, like in any conflict. Not good.

As usual, going for the oil rich countries that are not 'aligned'. Iran earlier this year with a strike on alleged nuclear facilities, although this was mostly cosmetic, and maybe Venezuela now. I wonder how long the official rethoric of *war against drugs* will be used as a justification.
