Too often, community power is held back by outdated ideas and assumptions.

In our new essay collection, Caitlin Prowle, @coopparty.party.coop, argues that we must disrupt "the statist mindset that too often sees community concerns as less important."

Our new essay collection explores Labour’s relationship to the politics of community.

In her essay, MP @kirstymcneill.bsky.social writes:
“long-term, relational, power-building work should be our guide as we navigate the 2nd year of this still-young Labour government.”

We’ve brought the Museum of Broken Dreams to the #LabourConference to tell the government that communities want the power to make change happen in their neighbourhoods.

Our Director gives a rundown of what we tried to achieve this week and why we need your help.

We're really pleased to be a part of an important new initiative: A Nation of Neighbours.

As @pollycurtis.bsky.social and @mds49.bsky.social write, "We need to flip the script. Enable the communities that are already leading to shape the national agenda — not the other way around."

🧵A Nation of Neighbours | New coalition of the willing 🤝

Across Britain, communities are quietly leading change – from food banks to youth centres, from local enterprises to new models of care. This energy and creativity is powering a story of national renewal rooted in neighbourhoods.

As the party of government gathers at #LabourConference this week, Inayat Omarji’s essay underscores an important message: “We need to stop treating #CommunityPower as optional, and start making it the foundation of how we rebuild trust in politics and in each other.“

Andy Burnham @mayorofgm.bsky.social writes in his essay: “The country is crying out for change. But not just any change. People don’t want more promises from on high... It’s about shifting power – real power – out of Westminster, and into the hands of people who know their communities best."

We’re thrilled to launch a new essay collection with @uclpolicylab.bsky.social & @powertochange.org.uk, that calls on Labour to re-embrace communitarianism: politics with communities at its heart.

We welcome today’s news that the government will funnel funding directly to 330 disadvantaged communities through a new 'Pride in Place' programme.

BUT it’s vital that decisions about how to use this funding and these powers are genuinely community-led.

A dream fulfilled: In the 1980s, private developers were itching to monopolise London’s South Bank. Locals fought back & won a radically different future.
