They did the same thing to Chef Boyardee till after the CEO or whatever had that article published saying he would never eat it cause it has artificial meat in it. Once it hit their wallet they swapped the ingredients back and now it tastes okay again.

At-least that's how it worked for my partner and I.
I started with the idea of portal rings cause it's simplistic.
Then macro/micro cause if they've played video games they understand that scale well enough.
Then it's fun time with macro/micro.
Then you focus on unbirth and same size.

"Modern setting" usually means scientific advancement, or finding out your family comes from a long lost line of magical users, no in between. Just with the background of the modern era with smartphones and such.

I myself enjoy a variety of vore types. But I also got into the community from my liking of Unbirth from a safe vore point of view, so I feel I'm a more unique case cause I knew I really liked women and matronly types to begin with, which just Segwayed into other subsections of the fetish.

If it's just the act itself and you're only doing it for self gratification, I feel you shouldn't really care if who or what you're eating also gets gratification out of it, especially if it results in digestion as their last ride.
At that point, power to them if that's how they want to go out.

There are of course drawn cases of hyper women with unbirth, but it's rare, as you said.
That and I feel it's much easier to image a normal dude with a hyper sized attachment, then what I stated previously in regards to women with hyper parts besides breasts, belly, or bottom.

Hyper in regards to unbirth is often attributed to minigiantess or giantess, or even just mass unbirth rather than hyper. That and most don't see an extra large muff or an inflated tummy due to the sheer size of the womb & ovaries as desirable except in the case of like, hyperpreg.
