You're completely correct.MM will never die. It's just frustrating that people who have always written it get overlooked in favour of trends or of trendy non-MM authors switching to it.

For me, it's cosplay. I have no issues with people wearing store bought cosplay, but please iron out the folds from it being plastic wrapped! You're doing yourself a disservice.
