Awful news this morning. Terrance Gore, one of the fastest men in baseball in the last 20 years, died last night, evidently from unexpected complications during a routine surgery. He was 34 years old.

There’s out of touch, there’s wildly delusional, and then there’s whatever the fuck this is from Rep. Nancy Mace.

Are newspapers having a contest today to see which one can publish the dumbest shit possible?

Pulled this from a mystery Christmas box from one of my local card shops. Guess I was on the nice list or something.

Never really tried online auctions for baseball cards before, but I got a majority of the 1980 Topps set and a good chunk of 1978 for cheap, plus a bunch of these 1950s beauties. That about doubles the number of ‘50s cards that I own. Nice to get HOFers like Monte Irvin & George Kell for $3-$4 each.

I was forced into Spotify because all the mp3s were eating up my phone storage, but a month’s worth of listening confirmed I’m a weirdo. And my listening age is 45, which I’ll take as a compliment.

I have never actually listened to a train wreck, but I suspect it sounds something like Good Charlotte performing Fairytale of New York during a Disney special hosted by Derek Hough.

1. Trump guts part of the White House to build his ballroom.
2. The ballroom, built to Trump’s usual standards, damages the foundation of the rest of the White House.
3. Trump denounces Obama & Biden for letting the building go to hell and says he’ll build a better one.
4. We get this. Thanks Obama.

Brian Dayett, former Yankees and Cubs outfielder, died Sept. 7 at the age of 68. He’d battled Parkinson’s for several years, and his health had been in decline lately. The news was posted on a GoFundMe page that had been created to help cover Brian’s medical expenses and equip his house. RIP Bama.

I have completed my 1979 Topps set, thanks to @aldonadi.bsky.social being kind enough to send me this Jim Rice card. So glad to have this one done and headed for a binder!

We’ve had a few days in Philadelphia & visited Eastern State Penitentiary. This area was the athletic field. You can see the backstop for baseball also had poles for field goals during football season. The fences on top of the wall were put up to keep home runs from flying over the prison walls.

Johnson was associated with the Braves from their time in Boston all the way through their 1990s first place streak. He died on this day in 2011 and is buried in Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, GA — right by his broadcast partner Pete Van Wieren.

Mike Ivie was born on this day in 1952. He had a pretty successful 12-year career, battling anxiety issues for most of it. During his time anyone with emotional problems was called a “flake,” & Ivie battled a string of unsympathetic teams.

He died in 2023 at age 70.

Finally made it to my first game of the year, and it’s a doubleheader with the Lancaster Stormers & So. Maryland Blue Crabs. And yes, the Stormers have a second baseman named Lucky (No. 7).
