On the return flight, the bomber was intercepted by more fighters but, by his skill, and good judgment, F/S Tinmouth brought his aircraft home without sustaining further damage. On this, his first sortie as captain, this airman displayed a high standard of leadership, courage and determination. 3/

All were injured on a takeoff accident on July 5, 1944, but sadly F/O Dumville later died of his injuries.

F/O R. Carter was evading when he and two other aircrew were captured by the Gestapo at Tillberg and murdered on the spot.
