Gleeful shitting on those still organizing and fighting here is unacceptable.

And yeah, that *is* cowardice. It is shameful. It should carry consequences.

The other reason I want to do this, and I'll get into it once we hit this landmark, is that given a few things about this book, I believe there's no way it didn't factor into Clavell's choice to write Shogun at least a little.

Afternoon in Ishinomaki. A tachi class doll hums a folk tune as she threads her way through the crowd outside the station. In a bigger city like Sendai, people tend to ignore her, but here, she draws many wandering eyelines, as an uncommon sight.

She tries to smile and return greetings graciously.

Vast, vast majority of trans people aren't going to leave the country. Many can't leave the areas they're currently in.

If trans survival/liberation are something one cares about, at all, that's the reality.

(And no, this is not — in the main — about indviduals leaving the country).
