The casque wasn’t going to work, she realized, so she found a crate full of bottles and filled them hastily, stuffed a rag into two of them and marched back to the dungeon where the creature was confined.

“Is his soul still in there?” Tyre wondered out loud, shivering at the thought of having her body stolen from her and twisted into something else.

“If it is, I’m about to free it,” Elsa said flatly, throwing the first bottle against the inner cage. The creature groaned as glass rained down on it, thick oil coating its sickly skin. She threw another to make sure there was enough. Elsa swore and held out a second bottle with a rag stuffed into it. “Give me a light.”

“I haven’t,” Tyre interjected. “What plagues the Sunway?”

Velerei shook her head. “No one knows, or those who do aren’t willing to say. There are rumors of feral man-things, creatures in dark robes, and misshapen wolves appearing from nowhere.”
