Yep, this why are we putting tens of millions into private organizations, particularly those created just before getting the contract. I don’t think we should go along with the “Somali Fraud” narrative but instead the gutting of government reality.

Well, very few get their internet through a “line” anymore so I do imagine it is confusing for the younglings. Right up there with the symbols for save, inbox, the phone handset used in answer and “hang up” icons.

I wasn’t thinking about the mayor’s pay in writing that comment, rather the pays for legislators and council members in several places around the country and the effect of that on the politicians there. I have also seen the opposite in places like PA, that has high pay and high corruption…

… I also think an executive managing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of public services shouldn’t be seeing mid size non profits or ancillary corporate jobs as superior career choices.

It isn’t a thought exercise but the gut response to all pay raises is that its a sign of “corrupt politics” of politicians only looking out for themselves when sometimes its the opposite. I would love frey to depart for greener corporate pastures but…

There is no top end, so you all are right that no amount of pay will ever end all corruption but i do think at the lower end having a regional leader be unable to afford to buy a home or have to shop their clothes second hand creates scarcity that opens the door to those that would corrupt politics

I think you also need to look at corruption. If pay is comfortable politicians are less likely to risk it seeking corrupt side money. If a 10% increase keeps the majority from acting against the interests of the people for personal profit, it’s worth it.

I don’t understand. Why do these politicians just want more police even in a lame duck after the presumed end of their career? Crime rates are falling and our parks are among our best resources as a city.
