I don't think this is a statewide ban (but I don't live there so perhaps something has changed) BUT a number of school districts HAVE pulled it from their shelves and the fact that the state is allowing it to happen is just as bad.

Same here - the ears get clipped so you know they have been spayed/neutered. Our local feral cat coalition only asks that they be fed in return, no other major obligations. (Of course I see to it that they are comfortable, and provide a pretty good shelter in the winter months too.)
