Spent the afternoon — which was sunny but still cold— with two others gathering signatures. Hardly militants… we were a retired old gal(me), a nurse, and a business owner.

I got that washer and dryer in my divorce settlement and moved. Years later the dryer needed repair. The repairman was baffled why the lint trap had been neatly repaired with a piece of screen so I told him this story. The mouse got in through the too-low outside vent, chewed through the lint trap.

I lived on a farm, in an old house. I once opened my dryer to see a mouse running round and round. I shut the door and grabbed the nearest outside cat and tossed her in the dryer. Closed the door and waited. She knew the assignment.
