Delighted to be one of the winners of the Irish Writers Centre Novel Fair 2025. I've worked on my novel for two years and this gives me a massive opportunity to try to get it published. Excited for what's next!

How much Netflix stuff is now just an extremely lucrative ad? Dallas Cowboys, Victoria Beckham, a cobbled together drama about the Guinness family etc.

It would feel a real surprise to read an article about trying to be less angry or trying to be nice to people, probably not so popular since that's hard.

My boss just said in a call, with 90 people in it: "Ronan runs like a well-oiled machine"

It's astonishing how often gargantuan selfishness and misanthropy get wrapped up in the language of self-help and even systemic injustice. Like in a world drifting towards fascism shouldn't we be wary of this constant idea that anger is some great liberating force?

Just got an email which begins Good Morning Rona. Good morning, everyone.

My guess would be some of the current hyped uses will not ultimately be the ones that persist. For example, chatbots etc. Presumably it has way bigger uses doing more technical things, but I don't know.

I guess the web has a more clear use? I feel like at the moment the bubble and the necessary hype for it is leading to massive exaggeration and a lack of specific thought about how AI can and should be used. Instead, there's a general shove to suggest it can be used for anything/everything.

In all seriousness I've wondered for years why the UK didn't use the alcohol industry/later licensing to generate some money, given the desperation that abounds in that regard.

Just realised my sister is quoted in this. I guess her quote is sort of summed up by the sickos meme.

Someone sprayed "pray for me, I am a demon" on the wall of the community centre next to the church on my street 😀

He also talks about killing and dying about thirty times a season, unnecessarily, so probably no surprise here.

🔺 Clear code words
🔺 Hand signals
🔺 ‘Train hard, fight easy’

After Mikel Arteta revealed he invited the RAF to help Arsenal improve their communication, @dansheldon.bsky.social spoke to former fighter pilots to find out what they might have learnt ⤵️
What Arsenal can learn from the Red Arrows: Code words, hand signals, ‘train hard, fight easy’
Mikel Arteta is the latest example of a leadership figure in sport looking to the British armed forces for new ways to seek improvements

I have come to love Night Tracks on Radio 3. Don't really listen to a lot of live music radio but this is a nice mix of stuff I know nothing about, a handful of things I know a little about, and the odd track by artists I already really like.

My dad used to come home with a massive bundle of brochures, restaurant cards, etc, just full paperwork for planning a holiday. And he was good at it, but just so, so much easier now.

Britain is a fucking mad country all the same, isn't it?

Is it me or is the Tory conference getting way more media attention than the Labour one did? I know this sort of anecdotal feeling of what gets more coverage is generally the realm of the mad but it does feel that way.
