You can! But not like Toronto

Now everyone gets to learn what living in a financial pressure cooker feels like.

New towns along GO lines remain a great idea while we massively increase our emissions and decrease people's happiness creating commutes to the city from Belleville, Brantford and Barrie.

Idea was supposed to be broad urban densification, but we didn't deliver that before blocking outward growth.

Everyone in Toronto knows the streetcars are slow and mismanaged (I wish our politicians actually *did* something about this), and yet we spent a generation of transit investments on building what amounts to more of them (which will be poorly run) in places we should have built subways.

Calgary's failures at least make sense
rmtransit.bsky.social
both *are* way too slow however

I mean, I think the issue is a lot more than funding, it’s more of planning and management

By incompetent governance

There’s already electrical infrastructure, virtually everywhere and additional chargers along the highways are getting installed every week

It’s definitely not the case that half the US population lives in exurban areas, I have family that lives in truly remote places, and they actually would be able to get by with at least one of their cars as an EV today!
rmtransit.bsky.social
Yeah, well you see…

Ottawa is actually quite a bit less dysfunctional in my opinion
rmtransit.bsky.social
Maybe, but I think people can be good at many things
rmtransit.bsky.social
Toronto is where sensible transportation policy mostly can never be allowed to exist

If there is a "post RMTransit" project for me, it's probably at the intersection of society / technology / and the environment.
rmtransit.bsky.social
Huh? Plenty of dense places in NA, uninhabited wilderness is irrelevant

Finally someone talking about the issue of a major west coast North America earthquake and how utterly unprepared we are for it.

I'm strongly anti-subscription!

What was eye opening?

It's remarkable hearing people in Canada talk about how the EV mandates are too much and how we can't get enough EVs on the roads while Euro countries are doing way better than us on adoption, and especially cold northern Euro countries.

I think I've realized I'm an environmentalist at heart

I have this food product that I love, made in Canada, B-Corp, it's almost perfect except for one dubious environmental practice. Emailed them about it, hope to hear back and report back.
