Got dragged deep in the weeds of crane fly taxonomy a couple days ago. I saw a very cool "mosquito hawk" on our sliding glass door. I keyed it out to Tipula tricolor. The next morning, I had another crane fly and it was Tipula furca. Yes, sounds prettty boring but not to me with time on my hands.

Dwarf Lake Iris

A special treat were the 5 Northern waterthrushes and 4 Mourning warblers that were in their breeding habitat along the Thunder Bay River.

Just back from a 2 week camping trip in NE Michign. Key target was to see Dwarf Lake Iris, a Michigan near-endemic that only blooms in the last week of May. Also saw tons of other plans and 97 bird species.
