Jack of all trades nurse practitioner, trail runner photographer, coonhound rescuer, lover of glucagon agonism in the liver, kidney and pancreas, fascinated by obesity medicine, retatrutide fan boy
Goes without saying that if you're writing a newsletter/blog/whatever you've gotta include memes and a sense of humor.

(But also seriously after this year semaglutide is cooked, all the newer multi-agonists are so much better)

Meanwhile in the Midwest(it's still snowing)

It is done! French onion soup. Homemade beef stock. Caramelized onions. Gruyere and sharp provolone cheese on toasted fresh French bread 🤌🤌
January 11, 2026 at 10:47 PM
Yessssss, now it can simmer with the stock and dinner is ready for later!

Downside to all this is I've enacted chemical warfare upon my entire household. MY EYES!
January 11, 2026 at 1:53 PM
Beef stock simmered all night, now time to caramelize an absolutely absurd amount of onions. French onion soup day!!

Mary Sue drug confirmed.

Tirzepatide + Taltz (an IL-17a MAB) significantly improved psoriatic arthritis symptoms and caused significant weight loss at the same time in data published this afternoon.

Because I have to share updates and we need some happiness on here, here's my pineapple plant. Slowly blooming and I've been hand pollinating as the blossoms open and close!

Embarrassing to see this in a Nature publication. They split out tirzepatide and semaglutide by their brand names. They're the same drug with different indications. They don't do that for keytruda.

Reality is GLP1 medications will be #1 and #2 for sales in 2026 which IS remarkable.

Round 2. Seriously one of the world's great foods.

Last beverage before a dry January. Monday Night Brewing in Atlanta remains one of the best breweries you've never heard of. Barleywine ages in rye and bourbon barrels.

Absolutely perfect beer on a cold January afternoon.

Had leftover prime rib from New Year's. We always have a gallon of birria stock in the freezer(it's 4 years old at this point, just add spices, chiles and liquid as needed)

So prime rib birria tacos for lunch, dinner and breakfast today and tomorrow?

Yes yes indeed.

2026 is already going to uh, be a year? So I feel this is an appropriate Saturday evening beverage to attempt relaxation.

Also, a perfect pour by me!
January 3, 2026 at 11:40 PM
Absolutely easy pick for me.

And yes we served it on our fanciest plates. AKA Great Value paper plates. I'm now gonna lay in a food coma while the infant naps and the 4 year old watches Encanto for the 10th time in 2 weeks. Happy New Year everyone.

One of the greatest culinary joys. Cracking the top of a creme brulee. Ignore the sounds of children in the background and the child's hanger. We're all just surviving here.
January 2, 2026 at 1:59 PM
It's January 2nd. I don't work again til January 5th. Time is meaningless. But yesterday I made creme brulee at home(with Tahitian vanilla!) Today we had it with leftover bread pudding for breakfast.

Challah bread pudding for breakfast. Happy New Year y'all.
January 1, 2026 at 3:05 PM
Happy New Year! Prime rib dry brined for 3 days in the fridge, potatoes gratin and not pictures, but fresh rosemary garlic sourdough bread!
December 31, 2025 at 11:59 PM
Time for a 2 day dry brine in the fridge! Prime rib for New Year's!

Probably one of the most comical Kaplan Meier curves you'll ever see as almost no one developed diabetes on treatment with tirzepatide. But take the drug away and diabetes unfortunately and quickly can show up.
