Looking for anything related to open-source/tech/privacy/security/hacking/infosec/etc. Always willing/hoping to learn new things. Passionate about spreading news, summarising topics, & explaining what I can (if I can) to anyone slightly less nerdy than me
I'm using it. Best decision I ever made. You get to control how much Google and/or other privacy invasive apps you want to install. You can even separate them using user profiles and the 'Private Space' feature. AND Google Play Services are sandboxed unlike on stock OS where they are privileged apps

I personally use a separate user for stuff like that. There is also 'Private Space' as well

At least we can use the Pixel Camera on GrapheneOS and restrict it's permissions such as network access. Also, personally I've found the GOS camera app takes pretty good video.

I know that call filtering is 100% possible on GOS so I assume it's possible with Gemini. Something else you might need to do is make sure access is given to 'Special access to hardware accelerators for Google apps'. But I'm really not sure about that one. Try asking here: discuss.grapheneos.org 2/2

You may have to set either Google Phone (or maybe gemini) as the 'Caller ID and spam app'. You probably have to find a setting in google phone about spam. Sorry, wish I knew more but I don't use those apps and haven't for a while. 1/2

Let me know if you give it a go and it works. BTW, make sure to set Gemini as Digital Assistant as well. Hope I haven't forgotten anything. Enjoy the huge increase to security & privacy from GrapheneOS. It has user profiles & private space for separating apps/profiles, customisable protections,etc..

GrapheneOS doesn't have to be about escaping Google. Install 'Sandboxed Google Play' from the built in app store and log into Google. If trying Gemini for call filtering, also install the 'Google' app, 'Phone by Google', the 'Google 'Contacts' app, maybe Google 'Speech Recognition & Synthesis' too

Is this not possible? If you install Sandboxed Google Play Services, gemini, Google Phone, Google Contacts, etc. Will it not work then?
I use GrapheneOS, but not those apps. However you can still use most features the one you described. Unless maybe it doesn't because it requires elevated privileges?

I'm not part of the GOS team so take with a pinch of salt but I believe the answer is yes. All app data and files that were in that profile are gone and impossible to recover as the encryption key has been purged. Even with the password/pin that was used for the profile, you can not recover the data

At the moment, I'm going with "Play Integrity" as it has occasionally affected which apps I can put on my device. But Amazon might be in the running with the rise of IOT devices like Alexa, Ring, Blink or whatever else people have invited into their homes.

I would still always be slightly concerned with iMessage, even with PQ3, as the OS it's on is closed source. That's just me though, it's still a very good thing that they're investing into better E2E encryption.

Once again, truly groundbreaking stuff! Absolutely incredible work!

This is amazing as always. Thank you GOS team!
