35 years later, now I am the father cursing the very same little parts and decals while an impatient kid bounces around me shouting “IS IT DONE YET IS IT DONE YET” 💫
It is all the parts and instructions of the Ninja Turtles Technodrome playset, laid out on our dining room table. This is not the vintage toy, but a re-release we got on discount which has all of the same parts, but smaller.

It is my wife Steph, me, and our son iO, posing with Krampus (this is 253 Krampus, one of several regional Krampuses in the Seattle-Tacoma area), holding the adorable holiday accessory of bundles of sticks that Krampus uses to whip naughty children as he drags them off to hell.

Happy Winter Solstice! Some long exposure pics from a luminary walk at a Solstice festival last night, a path of total darkness lit only by candles guiding us to the light at the end. iO loved it of course bc it was like a haunted house.

May the dark of night signal brighter times ahead for us all.
Tea lights in bags on the ground mark the pathway through an otherwise pitch black forest. The light in the sky is created by the camera's long exposure, to the naked eye it was much darker. My wife and son embarking on the beginning of the luminary walk. Our 3 year old son looking down at one of the lights on the path. Abstract art created by attempting to take a long exposure photo while a 3 year old grabs you and shouts "AAAA IT'S A GHOST IT'S A GHOST" repeatedly because he wants the solemn reflective night walk to be a haunted house.

Walked past Build-A-Bear and explained it to the 3yo: “That is the flesh grinder, it prepares the bear guts. Over on the skin wall, you choose a skinsuit for your bear, which gets stuffed with guts and a heart and then the skin is sewn around the flesh.”

Now he wants one, I made it sound too cool.

Our 3yo decided he wanted to wear a sleep mask to bed “like mama” and now he looks like the biggest baby diva

These digital textures are created in-camera by a circuit-bent sensor, they are not a filter or post effect, and they're rich with detail you'd never see when viewing the work on social media. One of the reasons I'm so passionate about printing my glitch work.

Some detail pics of my new "Find Another Way" print showing the fine digital textures visible at print size. The image appears as formless glitch noise when viewed close up, but a clearer whole takes shape when viewed with more distance; you can’t see a new way forward until you take a step back.

With my full-paged photography and words from the band never published anywhere else before or after, the Fragility book was much more than a typical tour program, and really represented the feel and mood of NIN's Fragile era as it transitioned from years of studio work to an intense world tour. 2/

Trent Reznor: "*When you attend a proper Nine Inch Nails show, you have entered our world. You've stepped in to a controlled situation that we've tried to provide for you. Obviously, a lot of attention goes into the production, from lights / visuals and sound, to the pacing of the set. We want the environment to provide the ideal framework for the music to exist within. I think that we're pretty good at that. We spend a lot of time trying to make the right setting for a concert so the audience can experience this music, be assaulted by it, and also be embraced by it. -When the situation arises to play festivals, my first reaction is always one of hesitancy. I'm generally a bit apprehensive, because suddenly all of those nice controllable elements are gone. Now you're in the midst of unpredictable weather conditions, usually with a crowd of restless people who have been there for several hours and have shorter attention spans. It's much less intimate, but there's an interesting energy that comes from it. There's a challenge to be met. We rethink our approach to see if we can make a set that comes to life under those conditions. When we played Big Day Out in Australia we came out with a sledgehammer of a set, one that was more of everything up, everything aggressive, much less delicate, much more brutal. I think it worked quite well, and it was far better than I had feared it might be. I was very pleased at the response we were able to feel from the audience. *It's fun sometimes to break up a tour that way. Things can get stale after months and months of playing your own show in your own environment. I think the stadium shows breathe fresh life into the band. We tend to be a fairty mutatable group that can fit in to a variety of situations, within reason. As an artist it's a challenge to be able to present yourself in ways that are appropriate for different settings. Trent Reznor (cont'd): Sometimes we get complaints from people that when they see our festival show, they aren't getting the full dose of Nine Inch Nails. Well, they are. It's undoubtedly a different type of thing, but if you saw us at a Nine Inch Nails show and then saw us a week later at a festival, you'ye seen two pretty much completely different shows and two very different sides of the band. So it's fun and challenging for us as musicians, and for the fans it's an opportunity to experience our music in different forms." Charlie Clouser: "The process of adapting songs from The Fragile" for live performance has been a little different from that of some of our past material, mainly because of the expanded sonic scope of this record. There are a lot of little details on the album that are important parts of the listening experience when you're sitting at home with the headphones on, and it has been somewhat of a challenge to render them effectively in a live situation. Some of the songs on "The Fragile" to one hundred individual tracks, and in the process of turning them into arrangements that five guys can bang out onstage we've made some interesting discoveries about what is important to the song and what isn't. An interesting side effect is that after a song has re-worked for live perfomance, the resulting stripped down* version usually sounds a little tougher and more rugged than it did on the album. Ithiazthsishecausetheementsthat remain are no longer surrounded and supported by cousins, uncles, and brothers, and each element that remains is allowed to speak with a more defined voice. This process tends to accentuate the elements that are crucial to the song, and allows us the freedom to interpret these elements in a manner that fits the live performance situation. The songs take on a new identity when we perform them live, and this metamorphosis is a part of the process that keeps it fresh for us, and. Charlie (cont'd): On this tour, for the first time, I'm playing a theremin, which was one of the first electronic musical instruments in history, invented in the 1920's by a Russian engineer named Leon Theremin. it is played by moving your hands in the air around two radio antennae; one antenna controls pitch, and the other controls votume. It is definitely a risky beast to play, because li never know if it's going to be in tune or if it will produce the sound I'm after. Each night's erformance is different from the last, and there is absolutely the opportunity for the thing to sound pretty terrible, but that is part of the charm of this instrument. Trent suggested that I bring it onstage as a way to add some new textures to some songs, as well as an interesting visual element. it might look like I'm doing a modern dance duet with a radio antenna, but the sounds this thing can make are out of this world. Hopefully tonight's performance will be one of the good ones..- *It's always great for us to be able to present a show that has a wide ranse of emotions, from brutal rants to brooding dirges, and I think that the material from "The Fragile" has allowed us to widen that range a bit. While we love to crack your heads with songs like "Wish" and "March of the Pigs", we also want to caress your bloody stump with songs like "The Great Below" and "Hurt". A perfect night for us is when you leave the show feeling every bit as exhausted as we do. The more you feel it, the more we feel it." Trent: The quest for the continual betterment of myself and my art is what Nine Inch Nails is all about, ond in this cose it comes down to on ottempt ot oltering what people perceive a rock concert to be. I think one of the challenges for Nine Inch Noils has been to rethink the ideo of performonce, and present ourselves not according to whot others do. but in a way thot seems interesting, challenging. and ortistically correct for the music and how we feel."
