18. Iron Lung (film) - While I'm not an active follower of Markiplier's lets plays/other ventures... goddamn, he fuckin' made one hell of an experience with this movie. A two-hour stress test of constantly compounding nightmarish anxiety and dread that rarely ever lets up.

Alright, let's see what this Mark I. Plier guy is serving up.

January 31st. #albumaday2026. The Flashbulb - Hardscrabble // a heavily electronic-focused album with a variety of sonic textures and soundscapes; reminded me a bit of Autechre at points.
February 1, 2026 at 6:48 AM
17. Blue Exorcist: Beyond the Snow saga - while I've come to accept this series just isn't really for me, this was admittedly the most I've been interesting by the story so far, mainly because of Yukio's further descent into madness.

16. Kirby Air Riders - admittedly never played the original so I was really curious about this one. This game is kinda nuts, delivering a similar kind of chaotic energy to playing a Super Smash Bros game, except via racing. The vehicles are fun to control and to try and pick apart the nuances...

15. Otr of the Flame - sadly marks another short-lived series for Yuki Kawaguchi. Started alright, but kinda lost me partway through. Maybe they'll be like Horikoshi and finally land a hit with series #3.

14. Ted (season 1) - easily the best thing to come out of this franchise. Solid writing and excellent performances make the material here not only ridiculously funny (I got light-headed laughing at "King of the Weiners"), but also give the series a weird amount of heart and earnestness.
January 31, 2026 at 11:56 PM
January 30th. #albumaday2026. Hanabie - Hot Topic (EP) // frantic metalcore, hip-hop and j-pop influences, even a bit of Gackt and X Japan in there for good measure. Fun listen!
January 31, 2026 at 11:04 PM
...wait is that the fuckin' school principal from iCarly?!
January 31, 2026 at 4:32 PM
January 27th-29th. #albumaday2026. The Flashbulb - Arboreal / Love as a Dark Hallway / Opus at the End of Everything -- introduced to this artist by my partner. Demonstrates a pretty impressive array of production/songwriting talents across some of his records so far...

Finally watching the Ted series.

John Bennett just gets it, man.

I hope this studio gets to bounce back with a new project soon, 'cause goddamn they really do prove their animation talents here. Like my new religion is "this one screenshot from the finale."
January 30, 2026 at 4:09 AM
13. Arcane (season 2) - The animation, direction, and performances are all still really on-point, but sadly the pacing here is the TV equivalent of a short-lived Shonen Jump manga i.e. "...wait, I have to make an ending NOW?!"
January 30, 2026 at 4:09 AM
January 26th. #albumaday2026. Poppy - Empty Hands // Considering this is dropping a year and 2 months after her last album Negative Spaces, it's not surprising that this sounds like the b-sides to that album. There's a few decent bangers on here admittedly, especially that album closer.
January 27, 2026 at 4:40 AM
12. Banned Tapes - a short but solid indie horror title about a filmmaker sorting through videotapes for scenes of unsettling/disturbing material. Not much to say other than it's pretty focused and delivers what it means to in a brief amount of time.
January 26, 2026 at 4:50 AM
11. Gachiakuta (season 1): got off to a bit of an iffy start, but I think the season grew a lot as it went on. Consistently impressive art and animation with solid character writing and a banger soundtrack. Definitely a B / B+ shonen title. I'd tune in for a S2.
January 26, 2026 at 4:50 AM
January 25th. #albumaday2026. Stevie Wonder - A Time To Love // Wonder's last major studio album to date, and definitely a solid note to go out on, sounding really extravagant and full of life in a way comparable to his classic period in the '70s.
January 26, 2026 at 4:40 AM
January 24th. #albumaday2026. Stevie Wonder - Conversation Peace // Takes a lot of what he was doing throughout the '80s and tries to marry it to '90s trends like new jack swing. Works out a bit better than his '80s output tbh.
January 26, 2026 at 4:40 AM
January 23rd. #albumaday2026. Megadeth - self-titled // The final studio album from the once-untouchable thrash legends. As a record on its own, it's an alright-enough slice of thrash, barring Dave Mustaine's lousy vocals. I feel like the idea of a "final" 'Deth record woulda meant something...
January 24, 2026 at 4:06 AM
So I came back to the wikipedia page a few minutes ago to confirm my suspicion, and yup I was right!
January 24, 2026 at 1:43 AM
For reference, here's a screenshot I took last week. Episodes 10-12 didn't have a synopsis... and also hadn't aired on Toonami yet at the time.
January 24, 2026 at 1:43 AM
January 22nd. #albumaday2026. Stevie Wonder - Characters // Still in that '80s funk/R&B phase; unsurprisingly the best song on here is the one with a Michael Jackson feature, but everything else is weirdly corny still.
January 24, 2026 at 1:01 AM
January 21st. #albumaday2026. Stevie Wonder - In Square Circle // It's really weird to think how for someone who spent the '70s being so innovative and forward-thinking, this album sounds about as typical of the '80s as you can get... and not necessarily in the best way.
January 23, 2026 at 11:05 PM
Looks like #Toonami is adding Blue Lock and Tokyo Revengers to the lineup.
January 23, 2026 at 5:02 PM
10. The Pitt (season 1): as someone who never really got much into medical dramas... holy shit this was some damn good television! Probably the purest definition of "emotional rollercoaster" I've seen in a while. Despair and tragedy, anger, rats, bittersweet joy, sandwiches - it's all here!
